There are numerous Christmas markets in various locations throughout Munich, including one that’s even held at the airport. The largest one is on Marienplatz by the city hall, and the closest hotels to Marienplatz are listed in this post. Marienplatz is also within easy walking distance of the Christmas market in Residenz Palace, the medieval Christmas market on Wittelsbacherplatz, and the one at the Chinese Tower in the Englischer Garten. The Christmas markets are usually open from the first weekend of Advent to the early afternoon on Christmas Eve.

It’s part of the pedestrian zone which is Munich’s main shopping area, and a stone’s throw from the Maximilianstrasse with its luxury boutiques. Marienplatz is practically in the center of the city, and offers easy access to many of Munich’s tourist attractions within walking distance. Those which are further away are easily reached by public transportation, as there’s a well-served underground station right underneath Marienplatz.
