The Oktoberfest is one of the events which is most closely associated with Munich, and it’s usually the most heavily-visited. The underground trains traveling near the Oktoberfest are normally packed during the festival. The station itself is often so crowded that one has to wait for a few trains to go by before finally being able to board one. Fortunately, there is a good variety of hotels within walking distance of the Theresienwiese where the Oktoberfest is held.

If one is looking for an experience similar to that of the Oktoberfest, but without the crowds, it’s worth considering coming to Munich for the lesser-known annual Frühlingsfest (spring festival), which is held for two weeks from late April to early May on the same grounds as the Oktoberfest.
